"First I opened synaptic and purged anything to do with fglrx or the open
source ati driver. Then I opened jockey and installed fglrx again." There it
fails for me: i cannot enable the fglrx driver from jockey: Enabling it by
selecting fglrx and clicking "activate" briefly pops up a screen saying
"downloading and installing driver" end then exits, doing nothing. The driver
is stil not enabled. Running jockey from the shell (python /usr/bin/jockey-gtk)
yields no more info.

Mine is not a new install, but an upgrade from 8.04. In 8.04, i used to
run the 'ati' driver.

I include current output from modinfo fglrx.

fglrx works, but window moving/resizing and scrolling are very, very slow;
desktop effects don't work
