Using the font Everson Mono (downloadable from
http://www.evertype.com/emono/ )

In Open Office, Insert > Special Character .... the following characters
are [usually] not displayed correctly in the pick list and are not
inserted correctly:

U+00DF0, Latin capital eth (a hyphen or dash of some sort is displayed
and inserted)

U+00E0, Latin small letter a with grave

U+00F0, Latin small letter eth

U+00F8, Latin small letter o with stroke (a macron or overscore such as
U+00AF is displayed)

Font Forge, Character Map, and Lotus Symphony all handle these
characters from this font correctly.

Further comments: this bug is erratic, and it appears in some fonts with
different details.

In the attached spreadsheet, highlight cells from C4 to J38, then use
Format>Cells>Font to assign a different font to these cells.

I suspect that the Unicode font-fallback mechanism is involved, because
characters unprintable in the selected font are displayed using another
font. Try Bitstream Vera Sans for some remarkable screwups.
