Public bug reported:

Hello,

I have the following setup:

AMD 64 3000+
Maxtor 80Gb IDE hard drive
Seagate 300G SATA hard drive

Silicon Image 3112 SCSI/RAID/SATA controller

nForce 430 Chipset on the south bridge(controls sound, network card, both
onboard and SATAm though I use the Silicon Image controller installed via PCI)
nVidia GeForce 6100

These are the issues I faced:

1) Tried installing 6.06 LTS. The install went fine till the
partitioner. Once I selected a partition on the SATA drive and it began
to format, the process of formatting + installing took about 4 hours.
Installed very very slowly.

2) after installation, on boot, occassionally would freeze up or hang.
Also would occassionally not report seeing /dev/sda2, which was an
already existing FAT32 partition of about 132 Gb.

3) Tried reinstallating using 6.10. Same issues persisted.

4) sata_nv and sata_sil are both loaded.

5) this issue does not persist when Ubuntu is installed on my IDE drive.

6) the system works perfectly on Windows XP, Debian Etch and Debian
Sarge, even when they are installed on SATA.

Thank you very much.

Please contact for further questions.
