Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: apt
When attempting an 'apt-get dist-upgrade' from hardy to intrepid on an
PA-RISC based HP c3650, I received the following error message after
downloading all the packages:
E: Internal Error, Could not perform immediate configuration (2) on
libc6
# lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 8.04.1
Release: 8.04
# apt-cache policy apt
apt:
Installed: 0.7.9ubuntu17.1
Candidate: 0.7.14ubuntu6

*** 0.7.9ubuntu17.1 0

Trying to upgrade just libc6 resulted in a dependency cycle:
# apt-get install libc6
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following extra packages will be installed:
findutils libc6-dev
Suggested packages:
glibc-doc manpages-dev
The following packages will be upgraded:
findutils libc6 libc6-dev
3 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 418 not upgraded.
Need to get 0B/8041kB of archives.
After this operation, 995kB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]?
E: Couldn't configure pre-depend libc6 for findutils, probably a dependency
cycle.
