It is still an issue - I'm running ubuntu 8.04 but have the latest packages, and the behavior is still the same. I've been able to use my laptop's wireless card, though, by configuring it using command-line programs as described in the bug report. I'm in the middle of some software development and can't upgrade to a newer release at this point.
