Hello, thanks for helping to make Ubuntu better. There are already a few bugs that describe this behaviour (for example bug 288039). I suggest you to try the solutions described in there and if that works mark this bug as a duplicate of the other bug. Solution could be: "alsamixer -Dhw" and set PCM to 80 or so and also see that the channel is not muted (MM) under a channel means it is muted and if it is muted press M to unmute.
