I still have this bug. My version of fast-user-switch-applet is 2.22.0-0ubuntu2 (as shown by synaptic, this should be the latest available version), I have Ubuntu 8.04.1, kernel 2.6.24-22-generic. Also this should be the latest version - I update almost daily.
