** Summary changed: - Display out of Range in Ubuntu or Kubuntu Live CD + Display out of Range in Ubuntu, Kubuntu or Live CD
** Description changed: I put in the Ubuntu 8.10 Desktop / Live CD to install Ubuntu in partition 3 of my hard drive. - Up on booting up to ubuntu CD, the montor went to Display out of Range H 16 khz V 14 Hz. - I was going to see if the partition boot had been fix yet with version 8.10 on live cd install. as of 8.04 it has not. Grub requires three tries to install grub in a partiton boot if it's RieserFS and 2 if it ext3 from live CD where as in the alternate install it require only once for ext3 and 2 to 3 times for RieserFS. + Up on booting up to ubuntu CD, the montor went to Display out of Range H 15 khz V 14 Hz. + I put in the Kubuntu 8.10 Desktop / Live CD to install Kubuntu in partition 3 of my hard drive Upon booting up the Kubuntu CD, the monitor went in Display out of Range Like Ubuntu. - I erased the cdRW and put the Ubuntu alternate CD on it. I booted up the CD and installed Ubuntu to partition 3. - I booted to windows 1st used my partition magic as I always have to do to correct the partitioner which never correctly write the proper CHR$ values to correspond to the LBA values in either EXT3 or RieserFS partitions. Running Partition magic corrects errors and window to operate correctly. + I put the Ubuntu alternate CD on it. I booted up the CD and installed + Ubuntu to partition 3. + Then booted to Ubuntu on to get the new Dreaded ""DisPlay out of Range"". - My new computer is a DELL Optiplex 755 quad core 9600 with 3 gigs memory a 250 gig hard drive, ATI XT2400 PRO graphics card and a ViewSonic VG2021m monitor. - Ubuntu 7.10 and 8.04 both had problems with this graphic card until AMD/ATI put a linux driver at this site http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/linux/linux-radeon.html and later the ATI control console was added to add programs from Ubuntu. + My computer is a DELL Optiplex 755 Core 2 quad core 9600 with 3 gigs memory a 250 gig hard drive, ATI XT2400 PRO graphics card and a ViewSonic VG2021m monitor. + + Ubuntu 7.10 and 8.04 both had problems with this graphic card until + AMD/ATI put a linux driver at this site + http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/linux/linux-radeon.html and later + the ATI control console was added to add programs from Ubuntu. + I believe this bug is a hardware detection problem that has escaladed from version 7. To fix this problem is to require a slight backstep - and to make a generic video driver for 800 X600 and to have the people choose better resolution after boot up. If going to high resolution works ok, but If NOt revert back to the 800X600 until either bug is fixed or the correct video drive for that computer is installed. + and to make a generic video driver for 800 X600 and to have the people choose better resolution after boot up.
