Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

I'm running 8.10 ubuntu with dual monitors (twin view) and two
workspaces. The system is fully updated.

On occasion when I open an additional document in Open Office (document
or spreadsheet) AND have either the navigator or the styles and
formatting windows open, the operation fails and the ancillary windows
flicker constantly until I force OpenOffice to quit.

I believe this relates to the application's attempt to display the
styles and formatting ancillary windows either across the twinview or on
both workspaces.

Open office does not recover from the problem and has to be forced to
quit. When forced to quit, document recovery sometimes fails leading to
lost work.

This is a very serious problem because of the consequences when it
happens. It is probably resulting in people quietly moving back to using
Windows.

I may be forced to follow suit rather than continue my plans to migrate
the local school and several local businesses to Linux, but so far the
workaround of closing all the ancillary windows on all documents before
opening another document seems to be effective, if inconvenient and the
bug has not appeared on the single monitor systems I have set up (I'm
trying a single workspace at the moment and so far the problem has not
occurred).

Let me know if you want me to provide further information or carry out
any specific tests to help you find the cause of this bug and I will do
what I can to help.
