I can verify this as well. Same SATA DVD Writer - SH-S203N will NOT boot live cd. I disconnect it and installed intrepid with an external usb dvd drive I have. After installation I upgraded using apt-get dist- upgrade / apt-get upgrade, etc. after a few reboots I reconnected sata dvd writer and intrepid hung for a long time at boot and gave same error messages as before. Latest kernel as of 12-02-08 provided by apt-get did not fix issue. Same machine installs 8.04 w/o issue and runs latest updates as well without issue.
