Soldberg, I've tested here with both the common-auth and common-account that you've provided, and I'm afraid I still can't reproduce the segfault or the login failures. I've even tried mangling the databases under /var/lib/samba/ to confuse pam_smbpass into segfaulting, and everything works correctly here. I'm afraid there's nothing more I can do here unless someone figures out a way to get a backtrace from your crash.
