I have tested LiveCD with Intrepid and it seemed to be fixed there. I also checked the Intrepid alpha4 LiveCD to see if it was the kernel upgrade from 2.6.26 to 2.6.27 that did it, but I could also not reproduce it with alpha4.
In Hardy (32-bit, fully updated) it's still very much an issue, though.
