It seems that the fix by Alex Lubberts (above) works with a couple of tweaks: For Canon add "image/x-canon-cr2;" and/or "image/x-canon-crw;" Also note that the /usr/share/application-registry/gimp.applications should be: /usr/share/application-registry/gnome-vfs.applications
