Just wanted to add an update. As I kept peeling the layers of this issue, I found that the problem appeared to be with AGP. I am using a nVidia 6800 GT AGP card. If I take a fresh install of 8.10 then add the nVidia 177 bundled drivers I get a black screen on boot. However, if I add nvagp=0 to the xorg.conf Screen options, things work but are slow.
Just for fun, I installed the AMD64 version of Intrepid 8.10 and tried to repeat the problem (I have an AMD64 CPU). It worked perfectly without any modification to xorg.conf. Also FPS was fine. With the AMD64 version of Intrepid, I could see that the AGP interface was working correctly by looking at /etc/proc/nvidia/agp/status. -- Black screen after installation of nVidia drivers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/304102 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
