I attempted to reproduce this bug using the following:
Xubuntu 8.10
apt-cache policy avant-window-navigator:
Installed: 0.2.6-7ubuntu1
Candidate: 0.2.6-7ubuntu1
Version table:
*** 0.2.6-7ubuntu1 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/universe Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
1. installed all updates
2. Verified Applications -> Settings -> Settings Manager -> Window Manager
Tweaks -> Compositor
'Enable display compositing -> not enabled (no checkmark)
3. Using Synaptic Package Manager, I installed Avant-Window-Navigator
4. Without restarting, I went to Applications -> Settings -> Awn Manager to set
up awn.
5. I opened the following windows: Terminal, Firefox, Thunar and positioned
them on my screen.
6. I restarted the computer using the Quit icon, restart
7. All windows opened in the same place I previously positioned them. All
settings are still accessible, and Applications -> Settings -> Settings Manager
-> Window Manager Tweaks -> Compositor
'Enable display compositing -> is now enabled
This is a clean installation of Xubuntu 8.10, I did not install Ubuntu
first. I did not have to run the workaround given to make this work.
Is there something I missed? What video card are you using? Did you have
Ubuntu installed, or was this an upgrade to Intrepid?
** Changed in: xfce4-session (Ubuntu)
