I'd like to add to this particular bug, as I'm having the same issue. Interestingly, two computers, both running updated Intrepid installs, one works as it should (shows signal strength and correct SSID), the other has the above issue (shows all grey bars, says connected to 'none' for the SSID, though everything works properly). I think this is a network card issue, personally. The computer that works fine is using an AR5007 wireless card, though it is using ndiswrapper and not the ath drivers. The computer that has the bug is using a broadcom card, using the built-in broadcom support (wireless works out of the box in Ibex, though not in Hardy).
