Public bug reported:
Hello.
I have installed Ubuntu 8.10 with just one primary partition mounted as /.
Since I had some more spare space, after the installation I created a new ext3
partition on the same hdd using gparted. This new partition shows up in the
Places->Removable Media->... menu and when I click on it, it gets mounted
automatically.
The problem is that it gets mounted in read-only mode. I have tried
having another primary partition and also tried creating an extended
partition and inside it creating the ext3 partition, but it didn't work
in either of the cases. I should mention that mounting NTFS partitions
in the same way (using the menu) results in the system mounting them in
read-write mode.
I think mounting in read-write mode should work out of the box (for all
types of partitions).
I also tried some "hacks" using chmod/chown and managed to get read-
write access to that partition, but only from the console. Gnome would
still insist the partition was mounted read-only, and I could not, for
example, right click and select the "New Folder/New Document>" menu as
it was disabled.
Thank you.
