Binary package hint: pulseaudio
When I updated to Ubuntu 8.10 lately I discovered that sound capture and
the whole things about microphones isn't working.For example I discover
that when i want to try to speak to somebody in Skype it's says "Problem
with Soundplayback". I search in Google about that and the final answer
was - there is no way how to fix the microphone.The skype error can be
fixed by deleting the pulseaudio , but that didn't fix the microphone
problem either ! I'm using ALSA and everything is ok , but the
microphone didn't work. In Ubuntu 8.04 everything was just fine , when i
upgrade to Ubuntu 8.10 there begin some sound capture issues.I still
can't find solution about that, this is serious bug check out the crying
people for some sound issues on forums - thousand topics.I hope that it
will be fixed by patch or by the next release of ubuntu.
