Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation. I can confirm this behavior of the mic controls. There is no way to unmute the mic using xfce4-mixer unless it is first turned on using alsamixer. After turning it on in alsamixer, the input volume can be adjusted using the xfce4-mixer.
