I have a wubi installation of ubuntu on my amd64 laptop.
Free space was scarce and i ran synaptic in order to iinstall missing packages 
for compiling a program from source, when computersuddenly  halts and doesn't 
react to anything, mouse doesn't move and I can't restart the comp with  
ctr+alt+del, so i had to pull the plug
