Public bug reported: I highly recommend this, that is if you want to really attract people to switch over from Windows. This would make the transition more worthwhile and easier.
I love the security, and stronger stability of the Ubuntu system, however there are a couple of things that almost kept me from switching. I highly recommend you implementing these in your next update. Here they are: All of the common Windows shortcut keys do not work. Some people like to use the slow mouse for everything but real computer users use the speedy keyboard with it's shortcuts. It takes time learning all the shortcut codes for each Linux version. It would be much easier if it was possible for you to add the Windows keyboard shortcuts as a addition to the existing shortcuts on Ubuntu. I also tried Ubuntu with KDE and it appeared that all the shortcut keys were different. It looked really shiny and all. But I could not figure the keyboard shortcuts out. I even went to the keyboard shortcuts under the control panel and it was not that user friendly. I tried shortcuts for the application menu such as CTRL+Esc and Alt F1 and multiple other combos and ended up burned out and gave up on the whole KDE system. I feel like it would be good if all operating systems had some universal keyboard shortcut to get to the applications menu. I did notice that Alt F2 worked for the run command on both Ubuntu and Kubuntu. I was happy about that. Only why does WIN+R or CTRL+ALT+R not work? This would make it easier for newbies. Also why does CTRL+ESC not work to open the application menu? Please incorporate some of these things. It would be much appreciated. Here's a list of keyboard shortcuts. You know what would really be awesome? People would love this. If their was a way to incorporate all the Windows and Mac run commands into shortcut-run commands and keyboard shortcuts for the Ubuntu system. This would give it a great edge. You don't have to add them all. But maybe could at least put the most common ones and link them to the simular application. Here's a list of most of the WIndows keyboard commands at: http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/100-keyboard-shortcuts-windows/ You can find a list of most of the run commands here: http://mypchell.com/content/view/69/1/ Just think about how many more people who leave Windows and start using Linux as a permanent system if you did this?
