I have been trying to install Ubuntu 8.10 on an Everex 3500 to no avail.
It begins to load the operating system from the live cd and then only
shows the default wallpaper and sometimes an object that appears to be
an open window with random lines and dots spattered through out itself.
The specs on the computer are listed below.

Operating System: Genuine Windows Vista® Home Basic <-- HD has been wiped. I 
don't feel like paying $20 for a recovery cd if at all possible.
Display: 17" CRT (1280 x 800)
Processor: 1.5GHz, VIA C7®-D Processor (128KB L2 Cache, 1.5GHz, 400MHz)
Memory: 512MB DDRII 533MHz SDRAM (2 SO-DIMM Slots, 2GB Maximum capacity)
