I think that it is actually BIOS that handles Fn+something and generates
ACPI events from that, which the system responds to. For instance here,
Fn+F2 locks the screen but Menu+F2 doesn't, although the keysyms as
reported by X (XF86WakeUp) are the same for both Fn and Menu.
