Binary package hint: pidgin

I am trying to chat with a friend over xmpp. We're using google talk
accounts, he uses gtalk under Vista, I am using pidgin under ubuntu
8.10. For every message I am trying to send I am getting error code 503
- message cannot be delivered. At the same time he is getting "aa.ivanov
... is offline and can't receive messages right now."

some info on the environment:
