I have attached a text file fo my /var/run directory along with a screenshot of the Update manager. I agree that my own menu.lst is most likely irrelevent. Maybe nto - seems you can only add oen attachemnt - so here's a cut and paste of the /var/run directory: total 48 drwxr-xr-x 13 root root 580 2008-12-11 10:21 . drwxr-xr-x 15 root root 4096 2008-10-29 18:12 .. srw-rw-rw- 1 root root 0 2008-12-11 10:20 acpid.socket -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5 2008-12-11 10:21 atd.pid drwxr-xr-x 2 avahi avahi 80 2008-12-11 10:20 avahi-daemon -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5 2008-12-11 10:21 crond.pid ---------- 1 root root 0 2008-12-11 10:21 crond.reboot drwxr-xr-x 3 root lp 120 2008-12-11 10:20 cups drwxr-xr-x 2 messagebus messagebus 80 2008-12-11 10:20 dbus -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5 2008-12-11 10:20 gdm.pid srw-rw-rw- 1 root root 0 2008-12-11 10:20 gdm_socket drwxr-xr-x 2 haldaemon haldaemon 80 2008-12-11 10:20 hald -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5 2008-12-11 10:20 iscsi_trgt.pid drwxr-xr-x 2 klog klog 100 2008-12-11 10:20 klogd -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 417 2008-12-11 10:20 motd drwxr-xr-x 2 mysql root 80 2008-12-11 10:20 mysqld drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 80 2008-12-11 10:20 network -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4 2008-12-11 10:20 NetworkManager.pid drwxrwx--- 2 root polkituser 40 2008-12-11 10:20 PolicyKit drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 40 2008-12-11 10:20 pppconfig -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 2008-12-11 10:20 .ramfs drwxrwxr-x 2 root utmp 40 2008-12-11 10:20 screen srw-rw-rw- 1 root root 0 2008-12-11 10:20 sdp -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 2008-12-11 10:20 sendsigs.omit drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 40 2008-12-11 10:20 sshd -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5 2008-12-11 10:20 sshd.pid -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5 2008-12-11 10:20 syslogd.pid -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4 2008-12-11 10:20 system-tools-backends.pid -rw-rw-r-- 1 root utmp 4224 2008-12-11 13:27 utmp Though, I would like to add, that after a fresh install, format and all, GRUB was not installed correctly and everytime Ireboot the system I need to type : CONFIGFILE /boot/grub/menu.lst - to get a boot menu.
