I was able to track down some information on the web that helped fix the 
problem.  I am travelling in Southeast Asia right now and don't want to do any 
major changes until I am back home.  When I upgraded to gutsy, it was not a 
smooth transition.  Thanks.

Sorry to see you're having some problems.  You've provided the correct
information, however it would be really useful if you could try a more
recent Ubuntu release and see if the issue still exists.  Could i ask
you try try the latest release and confirm if the problem is still
happening.  You could either update or even try the live cd.
