I am currently using Ubuntu 8.10 on an Acer Aspire 5630 WMLI. I managed to fix the acpi issues in 8.04 using Ubuntu-Tweak to set the cpu governors and by fixing the errors in the DSDT (not sure how much this contributed though). After that it would dim when I went on battery power and shift into cpu powersaving mode. The extra 'dim on idle' function still didn't work though. Now in 8.10 I am having problems again. Ubuntu-tweak seems to have done away with the cpu governor settings and fixing the DSDT didn't help. So now I have to manually reduce brightness and put the cpu into powersaving mode when i go on battery power. Not a big deal, but in the interest of perfectionism it really shouldn't be like this. Strange thing is that when I first installed 8.04 as a WUBI installation everything worked, even the dim on idle. I will probably just resort to using custom scripts to sort this out, but it would be nice if it all would work right out of the box.
