I have 2 dvd drives, the one that's slightly older also happens to be a slightly less reliable brand but was a lot cheaper when i bought it. Its great mostly but occasionally has a bit of trouble.
I find that whichever drive has trouble reading something usually the other one can cope with it. i tend to use my glasses cleaner cloth to clean the bottom of a dvd that wont read although Rob had one that was so scratched that he used a sanding-machine to smooth it down!!
