I confirm this bug, a computer I have a prior 8.04 installation in a
partition and:

    $ sudo hdparm -Tt /dev/hdg

    /dev/hdg:
    Timing cached reads:   386 MB in  2.01 seconds = 192.38 MB/sec
    Timing buffered disk reads:   90 MB in  3.01 seconds =  29.88 MB/sec

but with the 8.10 installation in another partition... the udma100 mode
is NOT activated, /dev/hdg becomes /dev/sda, hdparm can not change the
dma mode, and working with the hard disk ends sinking the user into
desperation:

   $ sudo hdparm -Tt /dev/sda

  /dev/sda:
  Timing cached reads:   274 MB in  2.00 seconds = 136.84 MB/sec
  Timing buffered disk reads:   14 MB in  3.08 seconds =   4.55 MB/sec
