Public bug reported:
Synaptic Package Manager returned the following error message on
completiion of installing Firestarter:
E: Malformed status line, no 2nd word
E: Error occurred while processing python-imaging (UsePackage1)
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/dpkg/status
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
This in a new installation of Hardy using a downloaded CD.
I ran update manager after the initial install.
I was adding other packages I use.
