The open office does not display all of the lettering so I do not know where to mouse click to make open office function as it should. Very simply put Sir. Open office does not work when I enable the nvidia driver that the OS recommends. I am using a rather old Dell machine and it has on board graphics. It probably has something to do with that. I disabled the nvidia driver and the open office and Wine and seemingly all of the other applications that depend on the nvidia driver work now. Only without the nvidia driver. That will be all. Please either except this as adequate or take away the report.

When you say Openoffice is disabled, what are the exact symptoms, and what steps are you following to come to this conclusion? ** Tags removed: openoffice -- nvidia driver update disables open office https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/308139 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. Status in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: when you do the update for the Nvidia drivers that the Ubuntu 8.10 recomends on a new install of the OS it kills Open office! This is in addition to the initial bug report. I have been asked specifically to describe "what steps I took to cause the problem. The answer to that is I installed the nvidia driver that is recommended when you first finish the installation of Ubuntu 8.10. I know it was the nvidia driver that caused the problem with the open office because before I installed the nvidia driver I checked to see If the open office was funtional. It was. The next thing I have been ask to respond to is what I expected to happen when I updated the nvidia driver. The answer is I expected it to inhance my monitors appearence. Not disable the open office function. Next I have been asked to describe what really happened. To reiterate. I downloaded the nvidia update driver after installing the Ubuntu 8.10 OS and it disabled the open office. I only mean to help. I have open office version 3 installed on my second machine, so I think I know a little about the proper procedures involved in the simple process of installing the Ubuntu OS version 8.10. I hope this is understandable. At this point I'm not sure it is worth all the trouble. The discription I gave the first time is pretty basic. If this is not enough. Please remove the report. I wouldn't want to confuse anybody.
