(jdstrand):
Using Xubuntu 8.10, noticed the Update Manager had something for me.
Clicked on it, clicked Install, entered root password, and continued on
my business. Later I wanted to install something through Add/Remove, so
I opened Add/Remove, browsed to what I wanted, selected it, and clicked
Install, expecting a prompt for root password, but did not receive one.
The software installed fine, but without root's blessing. I believe this
might have been because I still had Update Manager open (though it had
finished its work).
The packages updated through Update Manager were for vinagre and
something else, and I installed Terminal Server Client through
Add/Remove.
