Hi Brian---just clearing my year, really, this bug is still bugging me
...

Do you have any idea why it is still  "incomplete" and/or why whether
anything is being done or likely to be done about it?

I am not sure it should be re-opened; I submitted it not so much to
fix my own problem as because it seemed so strange, and possibly
symptomatic of a bigger issue: why on earth should xorg behave
differently when running from the live-CD than when running from the
hard disk?
