I've had the same problem.  I've still got sudo access, but some of the
functions under the System->Administration menu were broken.  The
workaround I've hit on (based on other slightly different by similar
problems discussed on the ubuntu forums) is to create a new group called
admin

$ sudo groupadd admin

and then add your default user to that group

$ sudo addgroup $USER admin

This seems to have fixed it for me.  Seems like some Admin privileges
have moved from the "adm" group to the "admin" group in 6.10, but the
group isn't added automatically during the upgrade, and no mention is
made of it.
