Public bug reported:
This request does not really belong against the vmbuilder project but
rather applies to the Ubuntu images being built. They currently have
4GB root partitions (4096) which is arbitrarily and unnecessarily
limiting.
These images should be built with the maximum 10GB root partition
(10240) allowed by EC2.
Justification:
The increased root partition size does not materially increase the size
of the AMI and does not materially increase the startup time.
It is not possible for users to alter the size of the root partition in
an AMI.
Having a small root partition limits how much software users can install
easily. It also limits basic operations in software like MySQL using
the default configuration (e.g., tmpdir, datadir).
I originally built Ubuntu AMIs with 4GB root partitions in early 2008
but switched to the full 10GB based on user feedback and my own
experience.
