** Description changed: Binary package hint: compiz I'm using a Thinkpad Z61T with integrated Intel i945 graphics card. Two days ago compiz effects stopped working on my machine for no apparent reason. When I attempt to enable them on the 'Appearance' menu, an error message pops up saying that desktop effects could not be started. Starting compiz from the CLI reports: Checking for Xgl: not present. Detected PCI ID for VGA: Checking for texture_from_pixmap: not present. Trying again with indirect rendering: Checking for texture_from_pixmap: present. Checking for non power of two support: present. Checking for Composite extension: present. Comparing resolution (1280x800) to maximum 3D texture size (2048): Passed. Checking for Software Rasterizer: present. Software rasterizer detected, abortingaborting and using fallback: /usr/bin/metacity Window manager warning: Failed to read saved session file /home/osinski/.config/metacity/sessions/10b16202c01fc4ee36122878703012181600000056410006.ms: Failed to open file '/home/osinski/.config/metacity/sessions/10b16202c01fc4ee36122878703012181600000056410006.ms': No such file or directory Please note that previous to this compiz had never had any sort of issue. + + Update: Problem was resolved by removing the "Virtual" section on + Xorg.conf. Nontheless a regular user who had no idea about this file + wouldn't have known about this. The "Virtual" section was added when I + attached another monitor and extended my desktop with it. + + Could a feature request be included for Desktop Effects so that the user + may know when the virtual resolution of a desktop is too large to be + supported by the video card?
