Well, I have been messing around reinstalling this driver and I just
successfully printed a test page. The only problem is I can only do this from
the web interface
http://localhost:631/ and not through the add printer gui. I can print a test
page and anything in firefox but I can't print from open office. This also
happened when I first installed the driver and when I rebooted, I couldn't
print anything. And to be clear, I can add the printer in the printing gui,
just not print anything.

To answer your question, the printer model is specifically identified as
MP500 Ver. 2.6. Also the website I got the drivers from provide 3 .deb
files: libcnbj-2.6 bjfilter-2.6 pstocanonbj. I believe they are derived
from Canon Japan which are provided in .rpm.

Could it be a permission problem of some sort? Also, I see
"cupsdAuthorize: No authentication data provided" quite often in the
error_log. Is this a sign of anything?
