Ubuntu better. Are you sure Pidgin-Encryption is causing the problem?
Can you reproduce it consistently? What Ubuntu release are you running?
Does the problem occur with both Compiz and Metacity? What video drivers
are you using? Does it also occur with the standard Human theme? Thanks

Removing pidgin-encryption as sourcepackage. Judging from the behaviour,
I believe the bug is elsewhere.
