I can also confirm this bug on my fathers pc running ubuntu 8.10 amd64
(2.6.27-9-generic).

The PC has the following components:
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+
Mainboard: Gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4, nForce 570 SLI 
Videocard: Asus EN8600GT (Geforce), 512MB
Memory: Corsair XMS2 4096MB
HDD: Seagate 500GB SATA II
