Hi Bryce,

I gave gdm another try today, still the same behaviour. This is how I
test:

sudo /etc/init.d/xdm stop
sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm # Select gdm as default display manager
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start # gdm fails to start X

Thanks,
B.
