At least some of the problems between OpenOffice.org and Visual Effects
has been corrected in OOo 3.0.0 which is now available in the
openoffice-pkgs ppa for installation on Hardy/Intrepid and will soon be
available in Jaunty as well. I tried to reproduce the problem with this
version and was unable to even with Visual Effects enabled so I think it
may be corrected now.
