I am closing this bug report because the bug has been fixed in LyX
1.6.1, included in the latest development version of Ubuntu - the Jaunty
Jackalope.
Please see Bug 297941, a backport request for LyX 1.6.1 on Ubuntu 8.10
and 8.04.
