You are right, the message "There are no matching packages" in the Applications 
pane will be much better than an empty one.

Thanks for your patch and sorry for not answering earlier. I already
fixed this in my local branch. Furthermore I think it is better to show
a text "There are no matching packages" instead of an empty page.
