same here.

i tried to set /etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf
"manage=true", but that didn't seem to improve anything. in fact, after
this change my wifi was down and stayed down until i reset the previous
change.

nm-tool doesn't launch since 'apparently' no NM is running. nm-applet
produces the following:

u...@ubuntu:~$ nm-applet &
[1] 7514
u...@ubuntu:~$
** (nm-applet:7514): WARNING **: <WARN>  applet_dbus_manager_start_service():
Could not acquire the NetworkManagerUserSettings service as it is already
taken.  Return: 3

(nm-applet:7514): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion
`G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed

[1]+  Exit 1                  nm-applet
