I tested various version for installing ubuntu on my fakeraid system with Intel icw and RAID1. I went through nearly every single error described here ... Neither intrepid nor jaunty seemed to work. My solution was to use dmraid 1.0.0.rc14-2ubuntu13 as Phil Susi described, and then pin that version in synaptics.
