NVidia users may find enabling some performance options will help. The nVidia forum suggests putting these in the Screen section of xorg.conf:
Option "PixmapCacheSize" "1000000" Option "AllowSHMPixmaps" "0" Then run this after X has started: # nvidia-settings -a InitialPixmapPlacement=2 -a GlyphCache=1 Read about the details here: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=118088 This worked very well for me (at least short-term). These options are enabled by default in 180.06 and higher, which might explain some success stories with upgrading the driver. Both Xorg and compiz now idle at 1% cpu usage or lower, while Firefox uses ~6% with 17 tabs open. Note: I doubled PixmapCacheSize in my config. -- xorg 10-20% cpu usage after intrepid upgrade, general system sluggishness https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/294972 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
