Beyond mentioned update starting the update-manager is reading the
update-information from the archives and than the update-manager tries
to compute the changes, but no information is given and the window will
be closed suddenly. Apport will not recognize these circumstances
anyhow.

The messages-log has only this two  line, each attemp:

To finish the update you have to use a terminal (apt-get upgrade) or
synaptic-package-manager.
