  Hi!

2 days ago, my Ubuntu stopped installing any package, including updates.
One example of what I'm experiencing:
  ------------------------
  ad...@adame-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get install tar
  Reading package lists... Done
  Building dependency tree
  Reading state information... Done
  Suggested packages:
    ncompress
The following NEW packages will be installed:
    tar
0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 80 not upgraded.
Need to get 338kB of archives.
After this operation, 2298kB of additional disk space will be used.
  Get:1 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/main tar 1.20-1 [338kB]
  Fetched 338kB in 2s (132kB/s)
dpkg-deb (subprocess): failed to exec tar: No such file or directory
dpkg-deb: subprocess tar returned error exit status 2
  dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/tar_1.20-1_i386.deb (--unpack):
subprocess dpkg-deb --control returned error exit status 2
  Errors were encountered while processing:
   /var/cache/apt/archives/tar_1.20-1_i386.deb
  E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
  ------------------------
And this happen with any install I try to do.

  I'm running Ubuntu 8.10

  Thanks guys!
