There is a further more potentially dangerous effect. The Ubunutu- Firefox-Google default home page is http://start,ubuntu.com/8.10/
It appears much less protected than a normal Google search (Using top right search panel in Firefox with Google selected as search engine). I have been offered links directly to virus sites by using the default search page when they are not displayed using the top right search panel. This thread is a specific example of a simple search that directly delivers virus sites to the user:- http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1019486 I think this is a security issue in that Ubuntu customisation has apparently removed the normal Google search filtering of known virus sites. I'm running Intrepid on an AMD64 machine, Firefox Help reports Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-GB; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008121623 Ubuntu/8.10 (intrepid) Firefox/3.0.5 -- Default 8.10 homepage searches wrong google https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/294652 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
