Public bug reported:
Hi,
The vmware-player kernel module prevents suspend to disk on my laptop
(even when the vmplayer application is not running).
After
/etc/init.d/vmware-player stop
suspend to disk works fine again.
When the module/service is started, all that happens is a black screen,
a lot of disk activity, then it looks like the system restarts again and
the screen blanker asks for my password. I.e. the laptop did not manage
to power off and halt. I found no particular note in /var/log/messages,
it looks like a normal suspend+resume (except from the IDE drive error,
not present normally):

Together with "auto-suspend when battery is low", the unattended laptop can
enter an endless prepare-power-down/resume cycle, then die in bad state when
the battery is empty.
Linux jchlaptop 2.6.15-27-686 #1 SMP PREEMPT Sat Sep 16 02:13:27 UTC 2006 i686
GNU/Linux
package: vmware-player-kernel-modules-2.6.15-27
linux-image-2.6.15-27-686
OTOH, suspend to RAM works fine (minor some problems with sync'ing the
clock and getting networking/NAT+dhcp work in the vmware guest again,
typically solved by a manual ifdown eth0; ifup eth0).
The laptop is a Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook C1110.
